Social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube use virtual gifting as a profitable revenue model. In this system, users buy virtual gifts and send them to creators during live streams or content premieres. Platforms typically take a percentage of these transactions. This model increases user engagement and incentivizes content creation, turning loyal followers into contributors to a creator’s earnings. It creates a win-win situation where creators monetize content while platforms sustain their revenue through microtransactions.
Goals
Main Objectives of Developing the Virtual Gift Feature:
Increase App Usage (DAU): Fun designs and animations for gifts will encourage users to use the app more, aiming to raise daily activity by 15%.
Create New Revenue: Users can buy gifts for creators, providing a new way for the company and creators to earn money.
Boost Creator Engagement: Sending gifts helps users show appreciation, increasing interaction and making creators more popular.

We (the Product Manager and I) are auditing our app to identify pain points and areas for creating this new feature, this the pain that we got:
Integration Challenges: If the feature doesn’t integrate smoothly with existing functionality, users might experience disruptions or inconsistent behavior across different parts of the app.
Technical Constraints: The new feature may require significant backend changes or additional resources, which could lead to performance issues or slower response times in the application.
Maintenance and Scalability: As a new feature, it may require continuous updates or adjustments, which could strain development resources and create maintenance challenges over time.
Solution
In the development of the Gift feature, I encountered several points that need to be highlighted:
Simplify the design and interaction of the feature to reduce complexity. Introduce it incrementally, allowing users to explore the functionality step-by-step rather than presenting everything at once. Ensure that the new feature aligns with familiar design patterns to make it intuitive.
Prioritize backend efficiency and ensure that the feature design or function doesn’t overburden the system.
